Report: Next Bugatti Veyron Goes Hybrid

Hybrid hypercars are all the rage now, and the newest addition to this high-horsepower, high-technology crowd looks to be the next generation of the Bugatti Veyron. Confirming reports from a few years ago, the hybridized replacement for this 1000-plus-hp monster is in the works, according to a report from Reuters UK.

This reinvigorated Bugatti Veyron with electrification may even be able to take back the world’s fastest production car crown from the Hennessey Venom GT, which just recently beat out the Bugatti Veyron Grand Vitesse’s top speed of 268 mph with its 270 mph run. This report suggests that the new Veyron would still use its massive 16-cylinder engine, but with added electric motors to make for even more power than the Grand Vitesse’s 1200 hp—possibly up to 1500 hp.
Apparently the car is already under development, meaning that the Bugatti Veyron could debut as soon as 2015. Just like the outgoing car, the new model would be limited to an extremely small production run of around 450 cars. A Bugatti spokesperson told Reuters that the new car would not give up any excitement compared to the current Veyron despite its hybridization, saying that “Our customers have certain expectations.”
Stay tuned for a possible next generation of the Bugatti Veyron hypercar with hybrid power.
