The rear shoulder sculpting of the rear quarter panels and the multi-spoke wheels of this prototype give it away as a Buick despite the heavy camouflage. This new model looks to adopt a sleeker, more fastback-like silhouette reminiscent of the Audi A7. The Chevrolet Impala, with which the Buick LaCrosse shares its Epsilon platform, adopted a similar shape for its 2014 redesign.
While the next-generation Buick LaCrosse will ride on this same front-wheel-drive platform as indicated by its short hood and overall proportions, this sleeker styling direction should provide more space between the Buick LaCrosse and the Impala, which became significantly more premium with its latest redesign. Expect the LaCrosse’s interior to follow the upward trend, although the 2014 refresh for the LaCrosse already moved the current car in the right direction in terms of interior materials and luxury equipment.
Just because the Buick LaCrosse is moving up in the world does not mean that the long-rumored Buick halo car is off the table, though. Rumors continue to circulate that Buick could use a version of the upcoming Cadillac LTS flagship’s Omega platform to create a rear-wheel-drive Buick model that would sit atop the automaker’s lineup.
Stay tuned for more news about Buick’s future plans over the next few months, as we expect to glean more information about the 2017 Buick LaCrosse sooner rather than later.
