2015 BMW 2 Series Convertible Spied

Get ready for another droptop BMW, as our spy photographers caught this 2 Series convertible testing in Munich, Germany. Our source says the car will be codenamed "F23" as opposed to the coupe's "F22" name. It reportedly starts production at the end of this year, meaning the convertible could arrive in U.S. dealerships by summer 2015.
We actually spotted a BMW 2 Series convertible almost two years ago, long before the coupe had been officially introduced. Now, though, the car has less camouflage. It shares almost all of its design with the standard 2014 BMW 2 Series coupe, with a strong character line running through the door handles, and a rounded, downward sloped nose. The black power fabric top is the only significant visual difference.
The convertible should offer the same mechanical parts as the regular 2014 BMW 2 Series coupe, meaning in the U.S. we can expect a 228i with a 2.0-liter turbo-four rated for 240 hp, and an M235i model with 322 hp from a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six. Both six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic transmissions will likely be offered.
In Germany, the BMW 2 Series coupe is slated to add xDrive all-wheel-drive variants later this year. While BMW hasn't yet officially confirmed whether that powertrain is headed to the states, it's possible the 2 Series convertibles could also offer xDrive.
With production of the new car starting before the end of 2014, expect BMW to introduce the 2 Series convertible at a major auto show later this summer.
