2015 Hyundai Genesis Named IIHS Top Safety Pick+

Sharing none of its components with that of the outgoing generation, the redesigned 2015 Hyundai Genesis rides on an all-new platform that is apparently extremely safe. By earning a Top Safety Pick+ rating, the 2015 Hyundai Genesis proved well-equipped to handle the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) now-stricter criteria.

We’ve heard quite a lot about the 2015 Hyundai Genesis’ use of more high-strength steel, which now totals more than half of the platform’s composition. While the stiffer structure helps with sportier handling, it also improves vehicle safety. Hyundai specifically engineered the 2015 Genesis to meet the specifications required for a “Good” rating in all categories, including the rigorous small front-overlap test.

The IIHS awarded the 2015 Hyundai Genesis a “Good” rating in all five crash tests. In the small front-overlap test, we can see that Hyundai’s efforts in strengthening the vehicle’s front structure with advanced laser welding and reinforced body mounting points was more than just talk. As intended, the cabin appears remarkably protected and maintained, minimizing the risk of damage to occupants. Compared to other vehicles which have horrifyingly collapsed and hurtled debris toward the driver, the Genesis performed impressively. Although the front of the Genesis is mangled beyond recognition, nothing intrudes into the passenger compartment.

Thanks to its available active safety features such as brake-assisted forward collision warning, the 2015 Hyundai Genesis will receive the Top Safety Pick+ status rather than the standard accolade if it's equipped with the $3500 Technology Package. That package includes lane departure warning, lane keep assists, adaptive cruise control, park assist, and the aforementioned collision warning system. Cars without the package will still be rated as Top Safety Picks, just without the "+" given to cars with active safety tech.

On sale now, the base 2015 Hyundai Genesis starts at $38,950 equipped with a 3.8-liter, 311-hp, direct-injection V-6. For $52,450, customers can step up to the 5.0-liter, 420-hp V-8 powertrain.
