The current Porsche 911 Carrera offers a standard 350-hp, 3.6-liter flat-six engine, and the 911 Carrera S comes with a larger 400-hp, 3.8-liter six-cylinder engine. Both of these engines will reportedly be reworked for 2015 to comply with new European emissions regulations. A new 911 GTS model could also reappear, offering slightly more power than the Carrera S, possibly in the neighborhood of 425 hp. There are already GTS versions of the Boxster, Cayenne, Cayman, and Panamera; the outgoing Porsche 911 also offered a GTS variant.
In terms of styling changes, expect new front and rear fascias with LED daytime running lights and a different bumper design. Autocar also speculates that Porsche may add active front air ducts for improved aerodynamics.
This refreshed Porsche 911 is expected to make its debut sometime next year, meaning it will likely be a 2016 model. Further down the line, we recently learned a plug-in hybrid version of the Porsche 911 Turbo is in the works for the near future. This rumored 700-plus-hp model would sit atop the 911 range, above the existing Turbo and Turbo S models.
Stay tuned for more information about the updated Porsche 911 sports car.
