2015 Dodge Challenger Hellcat Prototype Spied

The long-rumored SRT Hellcat variant of the Dodge Challenger looks to be inching closer to production, as our spy photographer caught a prototype of this high-powered muscle car undisguised. The car’s large hood scoop hints at the supercharged V-8 engine underneath the hood that will help this range-topping Challenger model go up against the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and Ford Mustang Shelby GT500.

This undisguised Hellcat prototype displays the refreshed styling of the 2015 Challenger that recently revealed at the New York auto show, but with one major exception: the hood. There’s a large, noticeable power bulge with a functional hood scoop. The revised hood likely confirms previous rumors that the hot Challenger would adopt a new 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 engine. This model would sit above the existing Dodge Challenger SRT 392, which is powered by a 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 making 470 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. Presumably, the supercharged Challenger Hellcat would boast horsepower numbers somewhere in the same ballpark as the 580-hp Camaro ZL1 and the 662-hp Mustang Shelby GT500. We previously predicted 640 hp, which would equal the output of the monstrous SRT Viper’s V-10.
With the Hellcat Challenger sitting at the top of the lineup, the 2015 Dodge Challenger will offer a comprehensive range of performance models. Other than the V-8 Challenger R/T and the SRT Core and 392 versions, Dodge is also offering Scat Pack performance kits in various levels that augment the performance of the R/T 5.7-liter V-8 or the SRT’s 6.4-liter V-8 engines.
Stay tuned for more news about the upcoming Dodge Challenger Hellcat, which will likely make its debut sometime this summer or later in the fall.
