A sensational piece of both automotive and rock ‘n‘ roll history, Keith Richard’s 1972 Ferrari Dino 246GT is headed to the auction block in Monaco. On May 9, auctioneer Coys of Kensington will sell the Rolling Stones legend’s original Ferrari Dino, which he bought new and drove until 1986.
For the American market, Ferrari built the Dino 246GT with a 2.4-liter, 175-hp V-6 engine paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Only 2,295 246 GT models were produced. Richards purchased this example in California in February 1972, and brought it to London three years later. He would go on to put 25,000 miles on the hard-top Ferrari, until it entered a Japanese collection in 1986, where it has since lived.
Painted in Argento silver with black leather interior, the odometer now reads 28,000 miles. “A Dino offered at no reserve is rare enough in itself and would make this is a highly desirable and collectible item in its own right,” said Coys managing partner Chris Routledge, in a statement, “but when one adds to this proven long-term ownership by rock and roll aristocracy, the Keith Richards's car has to be the ultimate Dino.”
Also on sale will be a 1950 Cisitalia Abarth 204 A Spyder, which was driven in at least two racing events by legendary driver Tazio Nuvolari. It’s one of four two-seat Cisitalia 204 A Spyder Corsa models given to famed designer Carlo Abarth.
