Kia will indeed introduce the 2015 Kia Sedona at the New York auto show, heralding the next generation of its long-overdue minivan. Last redesigned in 2006, the new Kia Sedona will look to strike back at the minivan segment dominated by the Dodge Grand Caravan, Chrysler Town & Country, and Honda Odyssey.
The most important improvement on the 2015 Kia Sedona is in the looks department. Kia’s prominent modern styling character adds a dash of attitude to the previously drab minivan, which adopts the same black-painted wheels and black mesh corporate grille as the Cadenza, Optima, and Forte.
Sleek profile looks come courtesy of a nicely-sloped roofline and stand-out character lines below the door handles and over the rear wheels. The chrome-trimmed Sedona’s invisible B-, C-, and D-pillars give the minivan a banner-like window profile that is both sharp and stately-looking.
Underneath the new sheet metal is an all-new chassis, as well as Kia’s 3.3-liter direct-injection V-6. The Kia Cadenza benefits from the same V-6 engine that is rated at 293 hp, and it's likely the Sedona will have a similar amount of power. In addition to a modernized and upgraded interior, the 2014 Kia Sedona will receive the Korean automaker’s UVO infotainment system, complete with Bluetooth connectivity, Google Maps integration, and voice-activated functionality.
The 2015 Kia Sedona will probably get a slight price hike over the outgoing model’s $25,900 starting price. However, considering Kia’s high quality interior and leaps forward in ride quality, customers should get what they pay for.
