2015 Volkswagen Touareg Refreshed for Beijing

The Volkswagen Touareg SUV will be making its debut in the Chinese market this summer, and VW has unveiled a refreshed version of the Touareg at the 2014 Beijing auto show with new front and rear styling and some new technology inside. This updated version of the Volkswagen Touareg will come to the U.S. later this year as a 2015 model.

Changes to the front and rear fascia of the updated Volkswagen Touareg are subtle, but make for a slightly cleaner appearance overall. The headlights are larger and now feature Xenon lamps as standard, and the grille now has four chrome strips rather than two. Out back, there is a new rear bumper that’s supposed to make the Touareg look wider, and the rear fog lights are relocated to the bumper.
The interior is also tweaked with new white illumination for the controls, additional chrome accents, and a few rearranged buttons and knobs. Better smartphone connectivity features are also included with this refresh, as is a suite of mobile online services like Google search and Google Earth maps. Some new upholstery choices and wood accents round out the changes to the inside of the new Touareg.
Changes under the skin are less intensive, as the refreshed Volkswagen Touareg is powered by the same range of V-6 and V-8 gasoline, diesel, and hybrid powertrains. In the U.S., this will continue to include a 3.0-liter V-6 TDI, a 3.6-liter gasoline V-6, and the Touareg Hybrid. For Europe, though, the two V-6 TDI diesel engines are revised to conform to a more stringent set of European emissions requirements, though, with the larger V-6 TDI engine also producing slightly more power than before. Expect higher fuel economy ratings from each of the three U.S.-market engines thanks to aerodynamic tweaks and a few changes to the eight-speed automatic transmission.
Stay tuned for more official information about the U.S.-market 2015 Volkswagen Touareg as we hear more about fuel economy, pricing, and equipment changes.
