Lincoln Teases New Crossover On Facebook

The Lincoln Motor Company posted a teaser photo on its Facebook page, as well as a brief video (below), hinting that the automaker will soon reveal a new model. The shadowy photo shows the outline of a relatively tall car, with narrow concept-like mirrors, bright white light pipes where the headlights might be housed, and U-shaped light elements at the bottom of what appears to the front fascia. The video shows an evolution of Lincoln's split-wing front grille, and features sketches that appear to show a tall, crossover-like vehicle.
As part of its reinvention plan, Lincoln plans to launch a total of four new vehicles. The first two, the MKZ sedan and MKC crossover, have already been shown, but the next two remain a mystery. At the 2014 Chicago auto show, Lincoln Navigator consumer marketing manager Carey White told us, "The next 12 to 13 months for us are absolutely huge… We're always evaluating all segments and looking at trends."
Last month, Lincoln design director David Woodhouse told us that the brand's new cars will have a more modern look. "I don’t think Lincoln wants to do retro design in the future. That ship has sailed because it leaves you with nowhere to go. Everything we do in the future has got to be contemporary and modern," he said.
Given that Lincoln this week finalized plans to open dealerships across China, it's possible the car teased here could be a Chinese-market model that might debut at the 2014 Beijing auto show. Even so, Lincoln says that for the immediate future, all Lincolns sold in China will be produced in North America. If it is a crossover, it's highly likely these vehicle is a new version of the Lincoln MKX. The model hasn't been updated in some time, and a concept of its Ford sibling -- the Edge -- was shown at the 2013 Los Angeles auto show.
