At the 2014 Beijing auto show, Rolls-Royce introduced the next ultra-luxury limited-edition vehicle in its new Bespoke Collection, the Pinnacle Travel Phantom. Celebrating the Chinese elite’s growing love of high-end luxury travel, the Rolls-Royce brings an opulent railroad theme to its exclusive twelve-cylinder extended-wheelbase flagship.
Consistent with the insane luxury we expect from Rolls-Royce, the Bespoke Pinnacle Travel Phantom does not disappoint. The Phantom’s 6.7-liter, 453-hp V-12 engine remains unchanged, but the car's exterior and interior get a full overhaul. The luxury train-travel theme begins with the Pinnacle Travel Phantom’s two-tone exterior paint scheme of Madeira Red with Silver Sand panels. Running underneath the door handles is a streamlined, abstract motif that Rolls-Royce says represents a speeding train.
Inside however, is where the real craftsmanship is evident. Morello Red and Seashell leather seats, roofliner, and pillars blend seamlessly with the Morello Red lamb’s wool floor mats, while Smoke Grey thread stitching on the seat flutes and included fabric cushions for rear passengers offer contrasting tones. Most impressive is the hand-assembled wood marquetry, which depicts scenes of a luxury cross-continental train traversing the landscape under billowing clouds of smoke and steam. With 230 individual pieces of wood, each laser-cut for ultimate precision, the Pinnacle Travel Phantom boasts an interior quite unlike any other.
“Bespoke is Rolls-Royce and our Chinese customers know it. To celebrate China’s love of travel and the success of Bespoke in China, I am proud to unveil Pinnacle Travel Phantom,” said Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös, in a statement. “This car is a showcase of Rolls-Royce’s pre-eminence in Bespoke design seen through the prism of luxury travel.”
Rolls-Royce has not announced pricing or production volume for the Pinnacle Travel Phantom, but there may be only about 35 vehicles built if the previous Bespoke Waterspeed Phantom Drophead Coupe is any indicator. Pricing, when announced, should undoubtedly surpass the standard Phantom extended-wheelbase’s entry price of about $475,000.
