Following its numerous appearances leading up to and in the Need For Speed feature film, the custom “Need for Speed” 2013 Ford Mustang GT sold for $300,000 at Barrett-Jackson’s auction this past weekend. The winning bidder was Dave Flynn of Columbiana, Ohio.
The custom “Need For Speed” Ford Mustang GT plainly looks the part of a Hollywood-worthy muscle car, wearing a custom wide body kit, 22-inch wheels, and silver paint with Kona blue racing stripes. The body kit includes a gaping lower splitter, special air intakes, a dual-scoop hood, low-profile mirrors, enlarged rocker panels with unique side scoops, rear diffuser, and a new rear spoiler. A Ford Racing supercharged 5.8-liter V-8 drives the rear wheels. Although in the movie the car is claimed to make 900 hp, reports suggest the real-life car produces closer to 500 or 600 hp. A standard, unmodified 2015 Ford Mustang coupe also featured in the new Need for Speed movie.
Flynn emerged victorious in a “spirited” round of bidding according to Ford, and his $300,000 will go to the Henry Ford Health Systems charity. The charity is a nonprofit founded by Henry Ford in 1915, providing health insurance and care services.
Flynn’s new “Need For Speed” Ford Mustang was featured prominently in the promotional lead-ins to the Need For Speed film, as well as for the actual filming. It was also featured in the Need For Speed Rivals video game.
